The Red State Notes New San Antonio Election Blog

Here is a resent post from The Red State:

It looks we are getting more blogs into the mix. San Antonio Election 2005 provides some in-depth analysis of what is shaking. The blog's name may get you Google hits but you may have to rethink it after May. That is okay. The Buddhist believe all is temporary.

Using the pen name Cicero (I guess a homage to Cincinnatus at The Jeffersonian), he has given a pretty interesting take on won Friday's debate between the three major mayor candidates. I look forward to seeing what he has to say.

What kind of person leaves their identity anonymous when making political observations and endorsments? If you are proud of what you believe in, reveal your identity for all to know....And I will follow after you....This means Cincinatus and Marcus Tullius Cicero

The citizens of the United States have a right to freedom of speech. But that right prevents the *government* from prosecuting a person from speaking their mind.

However, employers don't always respect that right. I recently read an article that talked about a Budweiser employee that was "caught" on video drinking a Miller product (maybe a Miller employee drinking a Bud, I don't remember exactly). That employee was fired for his/her... what? Personal preference? Does this person not have a right to drink whatever s/he pleases when not at work? Apparently not...

News organizations, although they claim to be non-biased, are almost always biased, and clearly endorse political parties/candidates. They may never spell out who they endorse, but the "spin" of stories generally makes this a no brainer.

Perhaps Marcus Tullius Cicero is an employee of a local newspaper or television news station, and "fears" retaliation by their employer should their identity become known, as he doesn't endorse "their" candidate.

In fact, after reading these observations by Cicero, I'm pretty sure he doesn't endorse ANY of the San Antonio candidates. He appears to be an Equal Opportunity Critic.
